Mission of the Performance Company
Being a member of the Performance Company is a privilege. Not everyone gets this opportunity. The mission of the Company is to allow dancers to further their commitment to dance education and performance quality through increased class and rehearsal time, national dance conventions, regional dance competitions and local performance opportunities. Members of the Company are the representatives of BJSD and as such should always exhibit positive attitudes and respect for themselves, other company members, other studio dancers, and their instructors. Company members should be the model at BJSD for attitude, respect, kindness, commitment, sportsmanship, teamwork and hard work both in the studio and out at conventions, competitions or any other time they are representing BJSD. These values work together to make the dancers stronger and well rounded in and out of dance.

Attendance
Regular class attendance is extremely important for the dancer, the teacher/choreographer, and the other company members. Competing companies work best together when they have adequately rehearsed together. If a dancer is going to be absent from any dance class or rehearsal, she (he) must fill out a “Request for Absence form (available in office) and explain the reason for the absence. The student should get each teacher affected by the absence to sign the form and then turn the signed form into the office. For illnesses or sudden emergencies, please call the studio as soon as possible. Please understand three or more unexcused absences may result in the dancer’s removal from one or more competition performance pieces. Excused absences are: 1.Illness 2.Death in the family 3.Bad weather (such as tornado warnings, snow) 4.A previously discussed, planned and approved absence. A school project or test is not an excused absence.  Understand that ALL company classes are mandatory, not just competition classes. It is very important for the dancer to understand her (his) commitment to the company and to “juggle” school and other commitments. In addition, dancers should arrive to all classes and rehearsals 5-10 minutes before class time to ensure class and rehearsals can start on time. In the event of snow, tornado warnings or other weather events, please use your best judgment when coming to the studio. Please call before you leave to ensure the studio is open.

Communication
It is extremely important for dancers and parents to know what is “going on” in the company. The Company’s main source for information is the “Company News” bulletin board in the lobby. It is imperative that dancers and parents look at the board at least once a week. The Company will also communicate via e-mail and hand-outs but since not everyone checks e-mail and hand-outs get lost between the studio and the home, it is the parent and dancer’s responsibility to check the board! Also check out the school website: beckyjonesdance.com for updates too.

Dance Attire
Company members should wear a leotard, tights, cami and/or boys-cut shorts to class. A ballet skirt may be worn for ballet. A black tank leotard, black ballet skirt and pink ballet tights will be required for all ballet technique students for the recital. No T-shirts, sweat shirts or sweat pants should be worn as instructors need to see the body. Hair should be up in a ponytail or bun and out of the face. Hair should be put up by the dancer/parent before class begins and is not the responsibility of the teacher.
